Book covers are a unique art, carefully designed. They need to be advertisements for the book as well as art to display on the coffee or bedside table.

They need to summarize the story without being too dull or predictable, yet without giving too much away.

They are an art in themselves, so when an expert panel convened by the website Design Observer named its 50 covers of last year recently, we could only applaud their choices.
